mapping
for this map I mapped what cafe bonte paard at the intersection looks like on a busy day when there are photographers to capture the extravagant cars driving by.
for this map I made 2 maps to mark and compare how safe I personally felt in the centre of Laren, and then I made a map that compared the price points of that location to see and compare whether my feeling of safety is correlated with how expensive the place is.
for this map/proposal, I looked at the 2 cafes standing at the intersection, and I looked at what exactly made them so uncomfortable to walk past and feel looked at. I noticed that the chairs and tables were turned in a way that made it easy for the people sitting at the cafe to look at the pedestrians. What made the pedestrians feel like they are on display almost.
A way to counter this is by turning the chairs and tables in a way that made the people at the cafe face each other in a way they cant see the street and the pedestrians well. This would work out because the cafes are usually fully filled so all the seats would be taken.
for the second proposal I wanted to find a solution to queer the space and break up the feeling of exclusion more.
So I was thinking of ways to get people talking with each other and break the ice but still keep a corona safe distance.
I always liked the feeling of little public library boxes because they make you feel more connected to the town and it's people. So i was thinking of a public crayon board that people could write messages on but I realized that with corona people probably didn't want to touch the same crayon.
So I came to the idea of having boards on all of the benches around the intersection with icebreaker questions that can make strangers get to talking and feel more connected. while still keeping the corona safe distance on the bench.
Possible questions for bench:

What is the most amazing fact you know?
What is your favorite movie?
What did you eat for breakfast?
What does your name mean?
Where where you born?
What is something you wont leave the house without?
